You are not alone…

Yesterday, while having an online coaching session with a client, I was reminded of a huge benefit of practicing Radical Honesty.

Learning that we’re not alone in our experiences of being alive is one of the biggest, most palpable benefits of being honest.

When we reveal previously unspoken thoughts, especially those that we’ve held onto with shame or embarrassment, and we get through whatever comes next, we often gain a new sense of belonging and camaraderie.

Sometimes when we share what’s real for us with others, we’re met with, “Oh my gosh, I totally relate to that. I have thoughts like that all the time.” Or, “Ahhh, I’m so glad you just told me that. I always thought I was the only one who felt that way.”

And other times we’ll find out that we really don’t see eye to eye with a parent, or that a friend does indeed have the judgment that we feared.

Through repeated sharing of this kind, we build resilience and confidence to be with what is so, whether we’re met with appreciation or anger.

When we make a practice of revealing more of what’s so for us, we might have the experience of:

  • Building courage, and willingness to take healthy risks

  • Learning that we can survive hearing someone’s unfavorable reaction

  • Relief from no longer being stuck in imagining the worst case scenario

  • Releasing shame from our bodies and minds

  • Receiving understanding, acceptance, and appreciation from others

  • Knowing that we’re part of something bigger than ourselves; we are not alone

Give it a try and let me know what your experience is!
